A lot has changed since I entered the 2002 NFL draft as a safety from the University of Minnesota.
Going into draft day I was rated 11th overall at the safety position by draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. I thought I was a shoe-in to be drafted late on the first day of the NFL draft, which at that time included the first three rounds.
As my family and I gathered around the television in Texas, I received my first call during the third round from the Dallas Cowboys.
“Jack, you are the top safety on our board and we are considering taking you with our third-round pick," they said.
